Got a text from "USPS"?

How to actually verify it

• Go to usps.com directly. Type it in yourself, do not use the link from the text.
• Enter your tracking number from your order confirmation, not from the text.
• Compare the sender number and grammar to what USPS actually sends (hint: USPS texts come from short codes, not random 10-digit numbers).

The safer move

Use the official USPS app or website. If you ordered something, check the tracking from your receipt or order confirmation email. If you did not order anything and got a delivery text, that is your answer right there.

Do not do this

• Do not pay small "redelivery fees" through text links. USPS does not do that.
• Do not enter card details on any page you reached from a text message.
• Do not forward verification codes to anyone, even if they claim to be USPS support.

What these scam texts sound like

"USPS: Your package is on hold. Pay $2.99 redelivery fee now: [link]"

"Final notice: Package will be returned today. Confirm delivery: [link]"

Both of these are fake. USPS does not threaten to return packages via text or ask for payment through random links.
