Someone sends you a payment request out of nowhere, or "accidentally" sends you money and asks you to send it back. Once you send money, it is gone. The original "accidental" payment usually gets reversed through the bank, so you lose twice. It is a clean con and it works because most people want to be helpful.
The urgency is the whole trick. Real mistakes get handled by the payment platform's support team, not by random strangers texting you.
